The future is coming, and it’s getting better and better.
You will see some major changes happening in 2020 (in just three months), leaving a big question mark on how science and technology work. Dubai International Airport is going through the BIGGEST transformation you’ve ever seen, and it’s going to leave you in an oh-my-God state.
Dubai: Passengers will no longer need a passport or boarding pass to travel from Dubai, thanks to a new biometric system which will be launched at Dubai International Airport, officials said.
Passengers traveling through Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport will soon be able to travel document-free. To improve the passenger journey experience, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs said it will introduce biometric technology to reduce time spent transitioning through both arrival and departure gates.
Using a mix of facial and iris recognition, passengers were able to check in for their flight, enter the Emirates Lounge and board flights, simply by strolling through the airport. Test runs allowed passengers to check in for their flight, complete immigration formalities, enter Emirates lounge and board flights. All biometric information will be stored on the GDRFA system for future travels.
Tourists who qualify for visa-on-arrival, UAE residents and citizens can all use the service, they just need to register their biometrics which is something we already did for Gitex visitors last week. “We are actually working to automatically register eligible tourists-on-arrival too, to cut down on queues at immigration.”
“Our collaboration with the GDRFA has resulted in the world’s first “Biometric path” – giving all our passengers a world- class travel experience at Dubai International Airport. The experience we are showcasing with GDRFA at GITEX Technology Week is a first look at our ground breaking initiatives and the future of travel.”
